Anyone know why Klotz has hardly stepped off the bench all season? He seems to play very little compared to everyone else.

Klotz is here really as the 11th / 12th forward, and his biggest role, or the one he seemed to be brought in to do was as a fighter. He tried to have one last night, but Fitzy obviously made some excuse about his jaw and wouldn't fight him squarely. His jaw seemed to be working fine once he hi got in the penalty box, though, didn't it. Classy as ever, eh.

I can't help but feel he's a waste. When he does play he struggles to finish hits and then that fight or what ever you want to call it, fitzy took a Klotz punch straight to the chin and it didn't even bother him. If he's literally only here to fight surely he needs to be a hard fighter?

His job is to stand up for his teammates, which he did. Its not his fault Fitzgerald chose to turn down the fight and instead go after Clements further down the rink.

Stand up for his team mates which he did? Done a great job of that, played around 2 mins all game. tried to have a fight with one steelers player for fitzy to come over and get involved, punched him sat for 4 mins and didn't come on again. Your right in saying you can't judge from that one punch but from the games this season that one punch is literally all he has done

In a game with so much special teams play he was never going to see as much ice time. That being said he did have a good attempt on goal in the second period.
Garrett is quite vocal with the players though giving them little comments as they come off to help keep them motivated or shouting a warning if there's an attacker coming in unchecked.

In an ideal world as a 4th line forward, he's probably only ever going to be getting 4-5 mins a game tops, so the amount of ice time he has been getting shouldn't be too much of a surprise. My concern would be if people continually refuse to fight him - I can understand why Fitzgerald did (there was absolutely nothing for Sheffield to gain at that point) - but if it becomes a recurring trend you wonder what the long term role for Klotz will be.

The trouble with Klotz is that he can't be used on a regular shift. If you compare him with similar players the Blaze have had recently - Olson-Lewis-Valabik-Egener-Harvey - they were all used on the powerplay or penalty kill and iced regular minutes. At the moment he does seem to be a waste of an import spot.

I think it could prove to be a difficult year for Klotz. A telling sign for me was that he didn't get a chance in the top 6 at the weekend with Marquardt missing. You'd have thought that putting Klotz in his place to make space for Pietrus and Bombis would've made sense, but Liam Stewart was the preferred choice. That suggests that he won't see a lot of ice time unless we're missing at least two forwards.
It must be hard to make an impact when you're coming on cold and if he can't draw a fight from Fitzgerald then I'm not sure where else he'll get one from. The weekend coming sees us up against two teams with ex-NHL enforcers (has McGrattan arrived yet?) in their squads, who may well prove to be out of Klotz' league and if he takes a solid beating against either then that certainly won't help him.

I think what Chunk says is very true - if you can't get Fitzgerald to fight you something is wrong.

No-one could've got Fitzgerald to fight in that situation on Saturday. Steelers were 1 up and had absolutely nothing to gain.

I've heard that as well, but I still think in that situation, he wouldn't have gone regardless. Maybe if Steelers were 3 or 4 up, but not in a close game like that. Trading Fitzgerald for Klotz in that situation makes no sense.

Personally not a fan of Klotz, I know he's a fourth liner on a fourth liner's pay roll so there's probably not a lot better out there, but I feel although someone else could do what he has, and more I'd like to give him a chance to stand up for himself and do what he was brought in to do before releasing him though, also gives the American leagues a chance to release the players that didn't make the cut, see if there are any cheap bruisers going

The longer Klotz not getting shifts goes on, the more i wonder if Stewart actually signed him himself. Surely if he did he'd actually play him

Klotz got a lot more ice time tonight, and I thought he looked good. He obviously bagged a goal, but he was good in the second as well. Hopefully that goal will give Stewart a bit more confidence in him and we'll see him out there a bit more often.

+1. He certainly didn't look lost out there and his goal was well taken I thought. No idea how long Cantin will be out which disrupts that 4th line (dropping Cowley to D and moving Stewart up) but I'm hopeful that the Blaze will continue with a disciplined approach and that Klotz will now start to get reasonable amounts of ice time.

Was nice to see Klotz out there a little more, not only did he get a good finish but he put his weight around a bit to avoid any incidents as Dundee started to get a bit agitated, a good performance by Klotz that he can be very happy with, hope to see more of him after last night

Last night was more like the performance I was expecting when he was signed. His first shift wasn't stellar - but maybe that was just the tactics. L.Stewart and Venus forechecked hard leaving Klotz lurking around the circles. I'd much rather Klotz was in on the forecheck and Venus was the one lurking... but other than that, it was pretty solid. He drew Dundee into taking a penalty from a pretty decent hit and scored a goal. He looked more composed as his ice time increased and the crowd reacted well to his goal.

He played really well last night - grabbed a goal and showed a good turn of pace too.
Saturday will be a big game for him following on from the Bordeleau incident the weekend before last.
