I find it funny how Devils fans were chuffed to have Lord back this year, a coach that visibly choked last year. Yet a lot of our fans aren't happy with hiring a coach with twice as much experience. A coach with twice as much experience and won or achieved nothing in it.

Compared to Lord who's won so much? I don't know what Blaze fans expect. The glory days are gone. Do they think top quality coaches are falling over themselves to come to the UK/Blaze. Almost every club starts with rookie coaches. And we have one who knows this league inside out. Weber's record and style of hockey was pants for 3/4 of the year but he would have been welcomed back.
We seem to have gone from happy clapper fans to ones that just whinge for the sake of it.
I just hope the Blaze and fans accept we're still in a transition process. We need to stick with a coach for a good 2 or 3 seasons to try and rebuild something.

What "glory days"? We won trophies for working hard on and off the ice, it's that simple. We saw the result of this only two seasons ago when we managed to win the playoffs with a team that were awful all season. If the signing of Stewart is the owners saying "meh, whatever" then I thank them for their efforts, but it's time to go. There's no point trying to run a sports club with a lack of ambition or that mentality. If my fellow fans feel the same, they should NOT allow it either.
Thankfully, this does not seem to be the case. They've signed Danny as he's the type of person who would stick around, he's got support from Tait as an assistant coach, we seem to be signing some British dept for the first time in years, we have a class netminder back and the engine that is Robbo, Pietrus and Cowley back too. So far, we're looking pretty good, we just need to get the imports right and we'll have a good team on our hands.
Of course, the chances of us winning the league are very slim, but as I said in a previous post, you have to try and the cups are always up for grabs. The concern around signing Danny is noted and fair. It's another gamble. Lord has one trophy in 2 seasons while staying competitive. That's hardly bad is it. It's the type of mentality Devils have always had and it's something I admire about them. I just wish we'd follow it ourselves.

I think Danny will be good for the club, he has some experience of coaching previously but equally good to see that he will be getting support from Ash. Be interesting to see if we go four lines which looks likely now if the GB line stays together at 3 with 2 scoring lines we could have a real nasty line 4 with selby and two like minded rink rat imports.

I hope so. The club do seem to be building around him quite nicely - which is more then can be said for Matt's attempt. We can put that down to lessons being learnt I guess.
I'm curious to see what type of team Danny will build mind. He's quite a chilled out guy and I think he will let the players breath and be creative, but he won't be taken for a ride either. It's a balance neither Matt or Marc got right. He's bound to make mistakes, but hey, who doesn't.
I think we'll run with 4 forward lines, but only 3 defensive lines due to cost and quality.

Even in the NHL, they only run 3 lines of D. It's very uncommon for teams to run more than that, just the panthers last year.

True. With the extra import slot now available, they'd be wise to increase the defence with it too.

I was talking about Panthers. Also, we didn't really have 6 import defensemen last season if you think about it. Godfrey has yet to arrive and Valabik was just sort of...there for the most part. He seemed more interested in the other world he was imagining then the real one.

I think on D, it's quality over quantity every day of the week. Look at the NHL. It doesn't matter how many you've got, a lot of the time the best teams are the ones with a killer no 1 D Man. Ryan Suter ices 30 mins a game. I'd prefer to find a standout player to do that, than find two more cheap D to fill out the lines, at the detriment of quality and ice time to the top lines.

Why is why I don't understand why we're seemingly keeping Noble and Godfrey.

I have yet to see a post where anyone wants to retain Godfrey. Personally I thought that from Nov onwards he offered about as much as a traffic cone and was nowhere close to the standard we need or expect. I can only hope that he was playing through a niggling injury and that next season we see a different player all together

That's my suspicion too. He's had a handful of games out too with add to that theory.

I can only hope that he was playing through a niggling injury and that next season we see a different player all together I would agree but I definitely think there was an injury involved and it would be good to see him healthy. I would also say that with his offensive talents so heavily publicised, teams had him well scouted on the PP and never really gave him any time and space to work with. That isn't going to change next year either.

Can't comment on him being scouted as such as I never notice him on the powerplay, but I do think you're right about him carrying an injury. It was a risky move by Blaze to bring him on board with such and I'm not convinced it was wise of them personally.

It also might not just be Godfrey they had scouted; I think in general as well our PP didn't deal well with pressure and an aggressive PK. Most teams realised that quickly.

That's a fair comment. Weber is a good coach, there's no doubt, but I did feel at times he had an idea and that's how it had to be. There didn't seem to be much room for flexibility for the players. If Danny has a more open and creative system, we might see our PP and Godfrey do better next season.
