Announced this morning via twitter.
Welcome back Danny. Good luck in the new role.
From BIH:
Coventry Blaze have appointed Danny Stewart as their new Head Coach ahead of the 2016/17 Elite League season.
The 37-year-old Canadian previously played for Blaze from 2006-2010, winning the three league titles, a Challenge Cup and a British Knockout Cup.
Stewart spent his college years at Miami University in the NCAA (1999-2003), before turning professional with the Fort Wayne Komets in the UHL where he stayed for two seasons before being drafted to the Danbury Thrashers in 2005.
He moved to Britain a year later, going on to play a significant part in Coventry’s success before accepting the role of Player/Coach of the now defunct Newcastle Vipers.
During his year in the North East, Stewart guided his team to the Challenge Cup semi-final and was named Elite League Coach of the Year despite the off-ice struggles of the organisation.
He joined Fife Flyers in 2011 and was quickly moved into a dual playing and coaching role.
During a five year spell with the Flyers he helped to establish the Scottish side as a recognised force in the EIHL.
Stewart announced his retirement from playing duties after helping Flyer to their second play-off finals weekend appearance in three seasons.
The feisty forward ended his playing career with over 800 professional games on his CV, more than 150 goals, 500 points and well over 1,500 penalty minutes.
He also holds the record for most appearances in Elite League competitions by an import.
Stewart hopes to announce details of two further signings ahead of the 2016/17 season before the end of this week.

Danny Stewart announced as head coach I'm glad this hasn't been strung out over weeks and months.
Although a few re-signings have already been made (ones I'm happy with), there's still plenty of scope for the new coach to build 'his' team.
Welcome back Danny

He has a tough act to follow but there is plenty of coaching experience in his cv from which he can draw. Welcome back to Coventry, Mr Stewart, and best of luck for the new season.
For those who see the negative side to this appointment, one positive is that we are unlikely to be signing a certain Mr. Didiomete .....

Wonder who has signed the players from last season - Weber Stewart or possibly Pease

I'd be surprised if Danny hasn't had a say in the process

Soderstrom was an easy choice. Lefebvre was an easy choice.
And now Stewart, again, is the easy choice.
Honestly, I think I would rather us have signed a good player/coach than spending the money on Stewart to the detriment of the rest of our team.
I'm left very uninspired by this one.

I have nothing but respect for Danny Stewart for all his previous work with us and he's a top guy, but this signing just stinks of being lazy and convenient for the club owners yet again. It shows little sense beyond pulling on the nostalgia strings from better days. With Pease now on the bench acting as an assistant coach, surely now of all the times we'd be in a better place to try a player coach - thus putting more money on the actual ice?
All this proves is the owners have learnt nothing over the years and Thommo really was the mastermind of all things hockey at Blaze.
As for Danny. Despite the obvious issues, I give him my support. After the playoff win with Weber, we had hoped for things to have been turned around, but as seen, we were really rather quite weak all season and rarely competed. So, with this taking into account, I don't think it's fair to judge or assume anything with Danny.

I have a pet hate and it's when people describe clubs or organisations as having DNA. It's cliched and passe and decidedly not at all groovy or hip, daddy-o

Does Blaze's stand for Did Not Arrive?

Personally unsure as to what I think of Stewart for us, he's spirited and entertaining to watch as a player, hard and dedicated (my favourite kind of hockey) though I'm not confident in his coaching ability, would've wanted to see him under Weber as a bench assistant coach first, but time will tell Also can't help but feel that with Tait as the assistant coach we're going to be heading down a path where Stewart, Tait and Pease are going to become the blaze bench for a long while without much change or addition, which isn't a particularly appealing idea

He was coach in Newcastle and got a good performance out of a team in a very difficult situation, and has been assistant or 'associate' at Fife for 5 years. (I think associate means running the show but Dutiaume is the figurehead). We're a lower half team, seems a perfect place for him to step up to a full time role. Whether he will succeed or not time will tell. Good luck to him - and I feel better about him than Matty (too quiet) and Lefebvre (too inexperienced). It does suggest a certain lack of imagination but if it works out then great, all the best to him. Watkins after that ?

We've only become a "lower half team" due to mismanagement since around 2010. They had a full house and all the praise for their work and they blew it. We've seen mistakes after mistakes drag this club down since. Are we going to win the league? No, but we have to try every game or what's the point. The cups are definitely up for grabs for anyone in this league however.
Despite the uncertainty of our new coach, we seem to be building around him with Tait which is nice to see.

I'm not taking anything away from him don't get me wrong, he's done well for fife in recent seasons and, from what I gather, Newcastle as well, I can imagine he did a fair share up north in Fife with Dutiaume, but with Tait's first year being an assistant coach I imagine he'll be almost entirely independent, aside from any input Pease may have, which will be almost a new experience for him As someone else said, Weber will be a hard act to follow and I think almost any coach we could feasibly get our hands on would be a step backwards, though I wish him the best with us for as long as that may be, be it one season or ten

Hopefully Pease will have picked up as much as possible when on the bench and off the ice from Chuck. I'd hope there'd be some structures put in place by Weber that will be carried forward, regarding conditioning, game preparation and research, man management and such like. If that's the case, at least Pease may be able to offer some useful assistance. Certainly between Ash, Pease and Stewart, I think they should have enough between them to be much more competent than Matty or Favor, who were just thrown in at the deep end with little or no support.

I find it funny how Devils fans were chuffed to have Lord back this year, a coach that visibly choked last year. Yet a lot of our fans aren't happy with hiring a coach with twice as much experience.
