Opportunity to comment on how other teams are shaping up and/or individual signings.
On Jeff Brown (newly to Nottingham) - not saying I'm old but I saw his dad play for Fife in the mid 80s

Not just other teams, but I am finding it quite funny how not long ago the league said "we're not a development league" about Brits, yet it seems everyone is going after Brits currently.
As for other teams, I'm really surprised Belfast moved Peacock aside. He's a decent Brit and still has loads to offer any team. It's not like Belfast are oozing with young british talent is it. Seems a bit shortsighted of them, but then again, I've been really underwhelmed by Belfast the last two seasons too.

I'm glad we did from a Belfast perspective. He wanted top 6 hockey, we weren't prepared to hand that to him on plate without him having to work for it. Also speaks volumes that it was Clan he went to and not Devils etc as Devils have been after him for years - again ice time issues there? If he wasn't guaranteed top 6 hockey then Thornton / Walser must be planning to replace him with better players and increased import levels mean it doesn't have to be a like for like Brit.
Can't spend a season moaning about complacency then just sign guys based on what we think they can do, or have done in the past. Only as good as your last season and sorry but he just wasn't good enough and didn't seem interested in fighting for a top 6 place.

It's not like Belfast are oozing with young british talent is it. You'd be surprised..... currently 3 Belfast kids playing in Canada (1 goalie, 2 skaters)
then a couple from the Junior teams (SNL &U19) who guested for us against the Italian team we played couple of them showed potential.
The Giants development programme is still a bit off the pace the programmes currently established (only been properly developed during the last few seasons) but it's definitely there and there will be those players who eventually break into top tier.
Also we once signed this kid straight from the EPL after he turned down Blaze

Ah, I didn't know about the talent elsewhere. Good to hear they're working on it too. Out of curiosity, do you think Lloyd will stay another season? I've heard rumblings from some that they thought he had lost his edge last season.

Someone posted a comment (probably in the rumours section) that Tanaka was going to Belfast to replace him (Lloyd)

Belfast confirm Garside, Boxhill, Desmarais, Forney, Benedict, Rutherford and Nickerson all re-sign for Giants next season joining Walser and Keefe. Peacock as already announced departs for Braehead. If the hockey gods would like to smile on me, Vandermeer is a huge fan of all things Coventry ......

Personally I think we've seen the last of Lloyd. Walser isn't a fan of his.
Just to add to the development bit - was announced tonight that a business case has been made for Giants to get their own rink for training, development etc so don't have to rely on public skating rinks. Being put forward for planning permission is next step.

Wow, that would be quite something if you manage it. I'd love for Blaze to be able to afford an upgrade for the skydome, but it seems very unlikely with all the things considered.

I quite respected Emmerson, I recall a game where he was trying to rile our players and when he realised that no one was going to bite he dropped the rough stuff and focused on his defensive role. As a coach he stuck with Edinburgh through what was clearly a difficult season. He cam across as principled and honourable and I wish him all the best.
As for Edinburgh - there's a proud tradition of hockey coming out of Murrayfield and I really hope that they can turn themselves around, the league will be better for it

Looks like Panthers lose both Mosey (to AHL) and Myers who wants to return to his family in Cardiff - no announcement as yet regards his future plans. Bit of a double blow for Nottingham as they were both key players and I reckon Corey had them down as part of his plans for next year

I think Mosey is a huge loss to Nottingham - he was the guy to build your forward lines around. That's a real shame for them and the league, perhaps Team GB as well...
