So he counts as an import (one of the EU players) and won't be a top 6 forward according to the press release. He's young, will hopefully want to impress. I can see him having a decent season

Seems like Tanaka's replacement in terms of position in the squad. He's only young, so it's hard to say what we'll see from him. His stats okay.

3rd/4th line guy, probably relatively cheap due to his injury-shortened season last year and general lack of experience. Has potential, did well in juniors putting up points and winning awards. Should be a good fit for the Blaze. I like this signing.

Surely selby (extra Brit )and Stewart (number 14 import)are the players we have stretched the budget to get to 12 forwards so Tanaka is yet to be replaced ,budget wise I am thinking.
Regardless of all that as long as we can field a decent defensive fourth line at least the top six guys won't have to log mega minutes killing penalties and can be fresh to play at a high intensity level offensively.

Stewart said in an interview which I heard this morning that he plans on Stewart starting the season as 10th forward.
Presuming that means Venus is the 9th?

If Venus is being moved up to 9th then I don't understand how that gives us the extra scoring depth he talks about here.

If Venus is being moved up to 9th then I don't understand how that gives us the extra scoring depth he talks about here. 3rd line isn't meant for scoring generally and certainly not with the players we have there currently. They will chip in with a few and there may be the odd game winner, but I doubt it'll be significant. I'd have Tait, Cowley & Venus down to be a shutdown 3rd line and focus on their defensive responsibilities which probably plays to their collective strengths. Venus is blossoming into a great defensive forward. Forwards aren't all there to score points - it's about mixing the roles and developing the team. For me, it would be an improvement on last year if we could have our top two lines scoring consistently. That didn't happen last year.
