We had 14 imports last season with carrying a spare with a much more expensive coach too! If we do not have the full compliment of imports then I fear we are yet again in for a season of struggle. There is no need for rotation of any forwards. Sign 8 imports and we can ice 4 complete lines. What happens if Cowley or Tait get injured and we are then short when we don't need to be.
We finished 8th last season. The question that no one can answer is where we would have finished without the extra import? Hard to concieive that it would have been higher than 8th, easy to suspect that it could have been lower. Having that extra depth at the knockings is a big plus in my opinion.

I think depth was what ultimately won the playoffs for Nottingham. We had the skill, the desire, the tactics, but we just couldn't compete when the panthers were rolling four lines to our three; they just had the fresher legs, and that made the difference.

I don't believe Nottingham did that. Besides, what else can they do? The budget won't stretch that far. Quick, Janseen and McDoanld? One extra forward and two D men. Not the best example.

Edin were in meltdown and Storm were almost free falling. Our extra import meanwhile was sitting it out in the stands. I think depth was what ultimately won the playoffs for Nottingham. I kind of agree. It probably did help, but I also thought we looked incredibly average in that final. After how well they played against Cardiff, it was a real shame to see the ugly side that plagued us all season return.

I don't see any reason why we cant get 14 imports this year therefore will be very disappointed if they choose not too and a similar season unfolds.

Just out of curiosity, what would you consider a good season for us?
With the way things are right now in the league, we have Steelers, Panthers, Giants with the top budgets with Devils clearly getting close to them. Braehead have an outside chance due to their conference and budget, with the rest (including us) spending less. The league title is against us, but we of course should battle hard every game. Cups however, are definitely up for anyone in the league.
Personally, I'd be happy if we can break into the block of teams at the top (1-4/5) and can at least get or close to a cup.

For me, top half in the league and reaching the final 4 in the Challenge Cup and the Playoffs.
I don't know about exact numbers for budgets, but I'd agree we're probably around 6th in the league in that regard. I'd like to think we can build a team that can overachieve on our spending, so top 5 should be the aim.
Doing well in the Challenge Cup will bring financial reward for the club, and as has been said above, cups are anyones if you have a good night. So you want to get as far as possible. I think if we get out of the group we have a good chance of making the semis because of the likely match ups. Before that, we need to build a culture that means the players will give a **** in the cup group games, something that has not happened in the past 3 seasons.
We've made the playoff final for the past 2 seasons. If the club is looking to improve - making the final 4 has to be the bare minimum target for that competition.

I don'think Devils are 'getting close'. With free ice time, decent crowds and rich owners they are right up there now. I'd say Devils and Steelers will be the top spenders next year, followed by Panthers and Giants. Clan next and then probably us. I think Fife have the potential to spend more but don't.
If we're top 5, and make the Cup semi finals and the playoff weekend. I'd consider that a good season. Most important i want to see us winning a high percentage of our home games.

True enough.
Going by this small sample, it seems as though feet are firmly on the ground with Blaze going forward.
