Well I thought that was an excellent advert for the sport - more entertainment in that one game than virtually the entire last season. Some real grit and resilience on show tonight and not a prima donna in sight
Liked Spang for the Panthers - in the pre season game I thought he was awful but he stood out for me tonight. Brown looks sharp but 17 mins in penalties against a 3rd line Brit wasn't the cleverest thing I've ever seen. Not sure how their goal went in - it looked a pretty routine kind of shot that you'd normally expect Stewart to snaffle up no problem and love him or loathe him, Farmer really is a quality hockey player. Fair play to Pacl coming in cold, made a couple of decent stops but nearly let in a howler off Noble and gave up a host of rebounds.
For us I thought it was a really strong team ethic that won the game. I thought Pietrus lead by example and Jorgenson was superb, Stewart just about deserved his mom but by the same token it could have gone to any no of other players. If Bombis carries on like this, he's going to prove to be one heck of a signing.
I didn't see all the penalties that Hicks called - and I certainly thought a couple of calls were soft but if they were all fair then we need to cut them out. Panther's PP was poor and about as predictable as ever, other teams will capitalise.

The game photos are up at: www.scottwiggins.co.ukI thought it was an excellent game with plenty of hits and play. You can see win or lose this team are not going to give up and if every game is going to be like this we are going to be in for a very entertaining season.

Jorgy was the difference for me, nothing went past or through him, bolt on MOM in my opinion

That was a good game and I enjoyed it a lot. I like the way the team's shaping up and I'm really pleased with four line hockey in general so far.
Bergman didn't seem to be having a great night and I felt that without him firing there wasn't much coming from his line, but Pietrus' line made up for that - they have great chemistry already.
It was good to see everyone battling in front of Stewie to keep the Panthers out and I like the look of the two new defensemen - Boutin in particular was quality.
It's early days and we'll know more when we've faced our other conference rivals in proper competition, but it's certainly a good start.

I assume if we reach the final you won't go as it wasn't a proper competition.....

I do count the Challenge Cup as a proper competition and I've never intentionally said otherwise. Perhaps instead of saying this: "It's early days and we'll know more when we've faced our other conference rivals in proper competition, but it's certainly a good start." I should've said: "It's early days, but having played the first of our conference rivals (Nottingham) in proper competition (Challenge Cup), we'll know more when we've faced the others in equally important matches rather than the pre-season friendlies (against Cardiff) we've seen previously, but it's certainly a good start."
