With the reasonable assumption that Edinburgh are destined for 10th place, at the end of today the position is as follows:
7th Stars, played 48, points 42 8th Blaze, played 49, points 41 9th Storm, played 49, points 41
Remaining fixtures
Stars Panthers home, Storm away, Fife away, Fife home.
Us Giants away, Clan home, Steelers away.
Storm Stars home, Panthers away, Panthers home. Us and Panthers being bundles of inconsistency at the minute makes predictions (at least for me) highly speculative but it looks to me as though our home game against Clan and Storm v Stars could be the pivotal games. Right now I'd go for us picking up nothing at all and Storm to take 2 against Stars which would give us an admirable opportunity to seal that highly sought after 9th place.
No matter what, it looks like it'll go down to the wire and at the risk of sounding unduly negative, I think 9th is what we deserve, my fear being that a scrape into 8th place will allow mgmt to conveniently overlook just how profoundly poor we have been this season and to settle for another year of mediocrity.

Want blaze to finish 7th, looking at the fixtures 9th is where I would bet on. Can see the other two trams getting 4pts, us 2pts for the home game as The Clan will be looking towards the playoffs.
(I am not going) It will be an interesting awards night with nobody knowing if they will be playing for the blaze again waiting on the last weekends results.

Finishing with the Fife double header definitely makes it advantage Stars. Storm need to beat Dundee at home or they're pretty much out of it, whilst if we can beat Braehead at home then that will probably see us through. At the minute, I think we'll end up 8th, but it's so close that an OT loss could be enough to put Storm ahead of us.

After watching that 'display' on Saturday night, it wouldn't surprise me if we don't pick up another point! If there was one team that looked like they had travelled 350 miles for a game that meant little, it wasn't Fife.
I think we'll finish 9th on merit

It will be even more "interesting" if Blaze are already out of it by then (I am going). It would need us to lose both games this weekend, Dundee to beat the Panthers at home, Storm to win at home against Dundee and then take a point away to Nottingham on Wednesday, so it's unlikely but far from impossible.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get zero points with the games we've got coming up, and to be honest I think I'm not really bothered. I just want this season over and done with, consigned to history and hopefully next season will be a vast improvement on this one. As for returning players, will any of the guys we would want to re-sign really want to play for such a shambolic outfit as it's been this season? I renewed my season ticket on Friday, but at the end of the game on Sat I was wondering if I'd been a tad too optimistic. Something needs to change, I don't know what the answer is, but it's sad to see our once great club descend to the state it's in at the moment.

Pedantic hat on - they will know because they will still have one game left, the awards night is before the final league game of the season up in Sheffield on March 26th. I know what you mean though... there is a strong chance that the playoffs won't be decided by that weekend.

Well, we'll definitely make it to the last weekend of the season without being out of the playoff chase now. Dundee need a point from two games against Fife (Away Saturday/Home Sunday) to secure their place and you'd expect them to do that and keep 7th place.
Manchester need a big result against the Panthers (Away Wednesday/Home Sunday). Nottingham have a pretty awful schedule, having just played a Scottish triple header and having a home game against Sheffield on Friday, but I still can't see Manchester getting the two points they need (as a minimum) from those games, never mind the four they need to guarantee their playoff place.
We obviously play in Sheffield on Sunday, so we'll already know how two of those games have gone. Like Storm, I don't see us taking any points, but I still think we'll hang on to 8th spot (all be it by the skin of our teeth).

Thinking about it, the Friday game between Sheffield and Nottingham could have quite a bearing on who makes the playoffs. Neither team will want to go into the playoffs on the back of two defeats, so whoever loses the Friday game will probably go out and hammer the team they play on Sunday.
