Just wondering what people think of the atmosphere at the skydome since Christmas really, and how the fans have backed the team , how the players feed off the noise of fans , how the fans feed off the players, the block 8 drummers /singers etc etc

I think reclaiming Block 8 has been a really good move. Certainly in the playoff QF, I don't think we would've created anywhere near the level of atmosphere if all the singers were scattered / in Block 2, whilst the Sheffield fans were on the other side of the arena. I think we would've got completely out shouted. So for making it known to the away fans who was at home, it worked, and I think the QF was especially good because the crowd reacted to the players, and then the players reacted to the crowd. When Block 8 first started, and was a bit of a novelty, the temptation was simply to just sing and shout constantly, so there was no reaction to the game itself, which is probably less useful to the players.
Either way, much better than a couple of seasons ago. Just need a few more general songs and chants a la COYB, Oh When The Blaze etc.

Yes quite right it certainly stopped the Steelers and the Panther fans and kept then faily quite, it will be down to Andy Buxton as to weather we can keep the block and build on it, the drums where a bit of a mess to a point but again its something that will be worked on during the summer along with a lot of new chants, we need a few more bigger voices in there and a group of us that can bellow out the new chants for people to learn , we may well give out song sheets or post new songs before the new season. W need to reclaim the skydome as ours, the players do respond to it as well we also know that players have to produce for the fans to be noisy

It definitely proved its worth in the po qf. Had to laugh at steelers in the various queues complaining about being split up and how it was ruining the atmosphere and the game!

having been on the steelers forum after the QF game, they didn't like being split up and considered it a stupid idea, so I'm all for it

Block 8 made a massive difference to the atmosphere and it livened the team up too. Also, could we have that Dundee Stars fan from the playoff weekend leading the singing?

Personally I think it's perfect, as said before it splits up the away fans when they bring a lot of them, it centralises our noise, which makes it sound a lot louder around the rink and, most of all, it means the away fans can't constantly be barracking Stewart from right behind his net, or at least without our own standing up for him Good move, I'm pleased to see the change

Ok I acknowledge - The entertainment and excitment will come from those on the ice - Me and MissBreezerJR think its great in Block 8, Even the moody 13yr who we dragged along one week enjoyed it (after announcing he would not sing ring a bell or blow a horn).
The new song that was handed out was to long for me, I had trouble remebering it without having to scramble for the sheet. 'Oh Ah Renny Marr' went down realy well when he took the net in the Caps game. Maybe something like that. It seems I can only reamember fomrthing that is 4 or less lines long. Maybe JD could get each block to sing a chant at the Whose with the blaze.....at the start.
I diod notice that when watching the playoffs some of the music was sung along with by the fans, maybe there could be some Coventry chants developed to go along with th ebreaks in play.

Sitting in block 5 having block 8 full of Blaze fans made a huge difference to the atmosphere and the game when it moved to block 1 we couldn't hear any chants. Not a fan of the drums but some big voices and easy to pick up chants and the dome would be rocking. I went out with friends who have a not quite two year old boy, who has been to several blaze games and he was running round singing lets go blaze lets go.

I really think moving the away fans and having "noisy" blocks helped. I do think next season though, we should put the away fans back together somewhere else though. Doesn't seem right they they're being asked to split up between blocks. There's a good chance a lot of them are family and friends.

Having more songs/chants is always good. I feel we've lacked the player chants that we had in previous years, although they've always been to the same tunes as many others, and new songs haven't caught on too well.
Sitting in block 2 it is nice to hear noise from other blocks, I'm not sure if it's the acoustics of the rink or if the other blocks are really that quiet! However, I can't stand the drums, sorry. From block 2 I can hear nothing but the drums and if I can't hear the chant I can't join in with it. I've liked the resurrection of the match of the day when we score, but when it's started in block 8 we can't join in because we can't hear it over the constant beat of the drum.
If block 8 is really going to work and unite the rink and provide that home ice feeling something needs to be done about the drums...

Its good to read the feedback from people, the Drums where a quick thought idea from Keith, yes they can be over powering and we will be working on a better system for that, if Stu makes a separated page or I will we can come up with more chants and songs, yes they need to be sort not long, as for the away fans I would keep them split as it did really stop them getting going and also every drummer drums when they try to start to drown it out hence a lot of drum noise but it worked. We would need less drum noise with more singers all round the skydome, the more noise the more the players responeded and as we saw the desired results, its not been the best of seasons but the crowd has got behind the team very well since Christmas and I think its worked

Drums are great so long as they're in unison I think we need to bring back those horns too. They used to go off like crazy and would work well when timed with the drums. Plus, clappers and bam bams.
The atmosphere in the dome really does have a huge effect on the team and the overall enjoyment of the night. It's critical that we keep it goimg throughout the season at every game. Even when things look their worst.

I can understand drowning out away fans with the drums but when it's our chant it will never catch on around the rink with them as it is currently as other blocks just can't hear. I'd like to see if something could be done for next season to improve that aspect of it.
Ultimately, I think it's just a matter of balance and getting it right. It's been something new and just because it hasn't all worked straight away doesn't mean the whole idea doesn't work.

Vey true all the things that make noise , gets the crowd going and without doubt will effect the players and in turn everyone's happy, atmosphere, wind all mounts up to a good night out and feeling We have plenty of time to sort things out before the season starts, ideally we could do with people who are prepared to start chants in most blocks and bounce the blocks off each other as well as all together that could be a way of keeping noise going all game as well

Yes correct it was an idea from Rob Coleman about block 8 and Keith (Crazy Crew) with the drums, we have had talks about synchronising the drums and not all going together (only when away fans sing ) and about getting one drum beat for PP and one for PK,

Of course it will all depend on Andy Buxton letting us have block 8 permanent because it would not really work from any other block

Need to keep the away fans together, 6&7. Don't want people not making the trip knowing they will be scattered around the arena. Match night reciepts (& food) from the away support are very important for the blaze & the skydome management. The atmosphere is also better in the skydome with a large group of away fans.
Only concern for 6&7 is the comments the players may get when they leave the ice. After 20 mins on the ice tha last thing they need is to react to a wise crack from a supporter.
