If Storm win tonight (regulation or OT/SO), Steelers will have the added incentive of knocking us out of the playoffs during the game (with a win) and getting revenge for last season. Any other result, and at least we'll be safe until after the Storm's final game which faces off half hour later and therefore allows time for me to escape from Sheffield before the banter starts!!
I have a funny feeling we'll scrape through not by winning, but by virtue of Panthers doing Storm in both games, which would set us up with our old friends again

Sheffield still have a small chance of sneaking second which would give them Fife rather than Nottingham, so if they beat Panthers on Fri and if Giants lose to Cardiff the following night, I think they'll be all out for the win against us on Sunday. Not sure what the game plan would be if that 2nd place is out of reach by Sun - a dead rubber for them so I could see them maybe resting some key players for the playoff round maybe
Think Manchester have a bit of a mountain to grab that 8th place and I just don't think they'll do it in either leg so I'm with fleece - think we'll make it to 8th before getting soundly thumped in each leg of the play off round, but that's another story

Soooo, how wrong was I (yet again ......) Well played Manchester, thoroughly deserved their win and they now leapfrog us into 8th place, so it's now down to the final game of the season and to qualify we need more points away at Sheffield than Manchester get at home to Nottingham.
I genuinely can't recall a season where there has still been so much riding on the final weekend

Hmm, which of the 3 biggest losers is the least worst. And this is what we have become, aspiring to be as poor as last season.

Don't worry, Fife will beat the Stars home and away, Nottingham will wake up and beat Manchester and we'll beat sheffield, finish 7th a higher position than last year. Then Breahead in the playoffs and Bob's your uncle! (seeding is complicated I may be wrong). (yes I do have an Uncle called Bob)

By the way, I also had an uncle Bob, but I think it was compulsory for anyone born in the 60's or 70's to have an uncle Bob?

Well it doesn't get any easier does it?
I think it will come down to how interested Sheffield are on Sunday. If they play at 100% then we'll get nothing, but we showed in our last game against them that if they have their minds on other competitions then we can turn them over.

Steelers (69 points) will need to be interested. They have two games left and are three points adrift of Belfast (72 points) who also have two games remaining. With the league announcement that the wildcard CHL spot would go to the 2nd placed team in the league should Devils or Panthers win the Play Offs you know that they will want to do their best to secure that slot. We also need to pay attention to whom the Panthers start on Friday. They are bolted into the fifth play off seed position as Braehead below them are guaranteed the second seeding irrespective of their final league position. Braehead can finish fourth, pipping the Panthers by one point should the Clan win their two games and Panthers lose both of their remaining games. Therefore does Corey gamble resting Wiikman for a further game potentially against the Steelers and playing Pacl?

It's a similar situation for Fife; they can only catch Braehead who will jump to second/third seed anyway and can't be caught by Dundee. It's not looking good to be honest.

So if we lose we are out regardless of the Storm result

At the top end of the table it's all up for grabs as second seed place isn't yet 100% confirmed. However the following, simply explains the EIHL process for determining the 2nd seed: At the Coventry Blaze end of the table it's simpler, we need to get more points in Sheffield then Manchester get at home to Nottingham otherwise we're out.

If they win both games in Cardiff (with at least one in regulation) then they'll take the Erhardt conference, so they'll become second seed and Braehead will drop to third.

Unless us and Storm both win, and Dundee lose both games to Fife - then Dundee are out. This sums it all up quite nicely: eliteleague.co.uk/the-race-for-the-playoffs/

No they cannot; Belfast will be the third seed if they finish second in the league as Cardiff have won our conference as well as the league and Braehead won theirs. eliteleague.co.uk/the-eihl/Playoffs The season ends with the playoffs. The top eight seeds progress to the two-legged quarter-finals (home and away). The Elite League champions will be seeded number one for the playoffs, while the second seed will be the winner of the Conference that does not produce the league winner.
The remaining six playoff spots will be taken in order from the final Elite League table. In the event of the league title winner not winning their Conference, the order will be as follows. The number-one seed will still be the Elite League winners with the two Conference winners taking seeds two and three (higher rank determined by their league position). Seeds four to eight will then be determined by the Elite League table.

Then this bit from your post would apply: "The number-one seed will still be the Elite League winners with the two Conference winners taking seeds two and three (higher rank determined by their league position)." It's not exactly straight forward :-)

I thought the same a Scott - that by finishing top of their conference Braehead are automatically 2nd seed, according to EIHL website that's not actually the case eliteleague.co.uk/playoff-seedings-explained/Looks as though the drama needs to play itself out at both ethe top and bottom of the league
