Patrik Moisio boosts Blaze line-upOn the face of it, it's not a hugely exciting signing and he's essentially just coming in to cover Paquette's ban, but I think this will actually give our forward lines some much needed balance once the injuries are sorted out. Moisio - Courchaine - Vallerand (All Moisio needs to do is make space and crash the net and I think Courchaine will be better suited as a centre) Lake - Robinson - Ferrara Venus - Dingle - Pietrus (Two evenly balanced lines with scoring and work effort) If Paquette is released after his ban's served and Moisio's kept on then Bebris would rotate with Venus.

Blaze sign Adam Courchaine - should be able to score for fun in our league I think. www.coventryblaze.co.uk/news/stewart-secures-courchaine-coup-20170731If I have a concern (not about Courchaine but about our forwards overall) it's that I still think we lack some height and body mass. We only have one forward above 6' - Brett Robinson at 6' 1" Maybe just me but I do think we'd have a better balance were we to have at least one player in that kind of power forward type of role. Hopefully my concerns are unfounded. 2 D to go and then roll on Aug 23. Have you revised your opinion of Courchaine?

So Vojtech Kloz is our "physical d-man who can play top pairing minutes". Having seen him play 5-6 times over the last couple of years, I can say that the likelihood of him doing either is very limited. Have you changed your opinion?

Courchaine frustrates the hell out of me to be honest. Really he should be leading the way for us but I don't see him busting a gut for the team, he doesn't back check, is like a statue in his own zone and isn't exactly explosive. If the entire crowd had a whip round and everyone put in a fiver and gave to Courchaine, he still wouldn't have enough to buy a goal. Suspect he commands a fair proportion of our total wage bill and his contribution isn't good enough.
That said, he reads the game so well and despite his apparent lack of effort, he's on just under a point a game, has the same no of points as Pietrus and is ahead of both Robinson and Dingle so would I have him back - no, is the first player I'd sack if I wanted to turn this squad around - again no.
Candidly, once again we haven't recruited well - Pietrus has found his mojo, Vallerand is a real find and we need to work our socks off to keep him and build around him, Nastiuk is solid and would be better if he had more than just Kloz in front of him, Dingle is a workaholic and despite a disappointing points tally so far, contributes every shift. Noble and Lake, I like because of their ethic and enthusiasm. As or everyone else including our 3 British players, not good enough.
Is this year's squad significantly (any?) better than last year's and if not then what are the common factors that need to be explored and what is being done about them?

I know your question on Kloz wasn't directed at me but for what it's worth ... I think he's been one of the plus points, our best D by a country a mile, maybe he stands out so much as the D sit somewhere between rubbish and mediocre and in a decent squad he may be less impressive, but for us - he's the only D man I'd be happy to keep with the possible exception of Noble

5 losses in a row. Two years of underperforming undermotivated players. Where should the finger be pointed.

I would pull the trigger on pease before danny. defence has been cack since he got involved with it before Thommo left. its hard to win games when you ship a boatload of goals every game.

Bebris Departs.
Odd press release, seems the Blaze were not prepared for the quickness of this decision. Maybe he was given his 2 weeks notice and politly said bye bye Mr Stewart.

I agree - hard working and worthy of his place I thought. Clearly we don't know why he chose to walk now but there we have it, I wish him well and hope things work out for him

Ryan Dingle announces his retirement. Such a shame he is a player I would have liked to see return.

I would like us to keep a good few of this years team and build the rest around them, I agree the D needs improving but I think the forwards have clicked. We need a bigger Brit pack as our short bench killed us this weekend against Cardiffs bigger bench.
